110th Anniversary Evening

What a wonderful evening of celebration! The hall was buzzing with excitement at our September meeting as High Levels WI honoured the 110th Anniversary of the Women's Institute.

We kicked things off with a rousing rendition of ‘Jerusalem’ before enjoying a welcome drink. With formalities kept brief, we took a fascinating look back at the beginnings of the WI movement. The fun then moved onto a fabulous barbecue, followed by a hilarious guessing game where members tried to match baby photos to familiar faces.

The centrepiece of our celebration was the decorated cake competition. A huge thank you to our judge, Melanie Holmes from The Reindeer Inn, who had the difficult task of choosing a winner. Ruth Stubley’s incredible entry, a silver tray adorned with WI mementos and a Union Jack decorated cake sat as the centrepiece, rightfully took first prize. Mandy Axe’s cake, with its impressive detail, was a worthy second. The creativity on display from everyone who took part was simply brilliant!

Of course, the best part was getting to sample all the entries with a cuppa. The evening was a perfect blend of friendship, history, and delicious cake - a true reflection of what the WI is all about.
